My Move to Atlanta

" I have big news," trying to be enthusiastic. "What is it?" my sister and I replied with anticipation. "We are moving to Atlanta," she said with excitement. " What?" I replied in great disbelief. These were the words that had changed my life. At the time I thought this was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Little did I know it was the best thing.

Moving to Atlanta was a very big change that I thought would be very scary. Having to meet all these new people and changing cultures was kind of rough in the beginning. I was already very nervous the first day of school and then I learned that I also had one more challenge to overcome. I had to learn and speak a new dialect. Then everything seemed to go from bad to worse. All these new slang terms I had to try and understand. For example, "ya'll." Before I moved down here I had no idea what that meant. Another example would be "I'ma go get me some of dem French fried pertaters" is another term that I learned which mean "I'm going to get myself some french fries." Southern dialect is very complicated and complex.

All of my new friends that I have made here have made fun of me on countless occasions for my northern dialect. For example, my friend David makes fun of me for saying the word "pop." In Ohio pop is our way of saying coke or soda. Another example would be my friend Alex making fun of me for liking the Cleveland Browns. I have never met someone from the south who has liked the Browns. Everyone down here seems to be quite fond of the Atlanta Falcons, being a Browns fan, I don't understand why.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Dialect

In the south, there are many things that people do that the people where I'm from wouldn't even dream of doing. In Sandusky, not a lot of people do drugs or steal. Down here I hear all the time how people get busted for shoplifting or possession. It just goes to show that the area where you grow up affects the way you turn out. Usually you can tell by the way people talk, act, and look if they are going to be trouble when they grow up.

Language affects everything around us. In most cultures people do get judged by the way they act and talk. Judging people isn't really the way to live your life. I think if you meet somebody from a different society then you should definitely get to know him or her before you start passing judgment. If you are going to pass judgment on someone then you should have good reasons to. Being able to speak different dialects and not get persecuted for it is just one of the many things that make our country the best in the world!

Please note that this sample paper on Dialect is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Discuss three ways in which the scale and articulation of the Colosseum gave meaning to the building in the context of Imperial Rome.

The Colosseum was commissioned as a symbol of Rome, confirming the wealth and power and might of Rome, and the Imperial Roman Empire to both the outside world and citizens of Rome. The scale and articulation reinforced the magnificence of the amphitheatre and viewed with wonder and awe.

The scale and design of the five tiers used for the seating made from concrete and stone ¹ varied in size and design, demonstrating social structure and hierarchy within Rome. Senators and dignitaries sat closest to the arena, with women, and slaves seated furthest away. The Emperor's box was situated at the ringside where everyone could see his reactions to the performances.

The strength of the arches throughout the building together with the arcades evenly placed within adds to the articulation of the arches that are framed with pilasters and entablature. The orders are repeated on three floors with Doric the strongest and more substantial but less decorative on the first, Ionic on the second slenderer and taller with an ornate capital and finally Corinthian on

the third, the slenderest and topped with a highly decorated capital. There is evidence of the grand and importance entrance for the Emperor's ² with remains of an ornate portico with pillars and an archway decorated with paintings, gilding and mouldings all emphasising the importance of the Emperor and the Senate.

An example of a modern amphitheatre is Wembley Stadium, a prime-sporting arena, which has close parallels with the Colosseum, together with an ellipsis arena. Wembley has an impressive entrance that would have been fitting for an Emperor on his way to his ringside box. Not only was Wembley built for the purpose of entertaining many people it was also built to convey the wealth and power at the time of the British Empire.

In conclusion the design of the Colosseum portrayed the wealth and power and strength of the Roman Empire. The Coliseum is still a magnificent and beautiful building full of style and elegance.

The play within a play is used in both Hamlet and A Midsummer Nights Dream. Both convey a different message but are still similarities none the less.

In Babylon a young, handsome boy and a beautiful girl have grown up together in houses built side-by-side. Their parents disapprove of their budding love and forbid them to marry or even converse with each other. But the wall that separates their houses has a hole (chink) in it through which the young lovers can talk in secrecy. This isnt enough, they cant even kiss through the chink so the pair conspires to meet in secrecy at the secluded tomb of the Babylonian King, Ninus. On the way, Thisbe, who leaves her home early, sees a lion. Scared, she runs, dropping a scarf in flight which the lion, fresh from a feast, gnashes with his teeth and smears with animal blood. Pyramus, who cant get out early, finds the lions footprints and the bloody scarf of Thisbe. Devastated by the presumed loss of his beloved, Pyramus pulls out his sword and kills himself. Eventually Thisbe, more concerned that Pyramus would think she had changed her mind than worried about the lion, leaves the protective cave in which shes been hiding, only to find the body of her beloved still losing blood from a self-inflicted wound. Unwilling to live without him, she takes the blade and turns it fatally on herself.

In Hamlet, the play within the play is Hamlet's way of trying to somehow get Claudius to confess to having a role in his father's murder. The play is about the disorder in Elsinore. It is a play about kings and queens, and with it Hamlet intends to provoke Claudius, his uncle, and new father, into some kind of confession or evidence of his guilt. The play is a reenactment of what the ghost of the King (Hamlet) had told Hamlet what had happened to him, and that he was indeed murdered, and Claudius was the culprit. The ghost told Hamlet that Claudius had poured poison into his ear while he was sleeping. And that is exactly what the players acted out.

In both of the plays within the play, there is a tragedy at the end of them, with the king being murdered in Hamlet, and with both Thisbe and Pyramus' demise.

Dearest Journal,

Here we go again with another world war. When will the madness ever end! My heart is broken because Russia is involved in the war. It is now up against the country that I have lived and loved in for nearly 40 years. I don't know whose side I should be in really. Although my hearts goes out to Canada, the memories of my early childhood in Russia are still lividly sketched in my mind. Despite the fact that the people of my kind were commonly persecuted by the Russian government and their society, I still had some good times. Oh if only Orlando was still alive he would know what to do, but he died years ago in the middle of this Depression. I know what he would do … he would rejoin the army. He is very fond of this country and so am I. Therefore that is where I'll decide I'll put my loyalty to.

King is debating on whether or not we should have Conscription. There seems to be always this ongoing struggle between the French and English Canadians about this issue. King is trying really hard, I can tell, to look for a compromise for all this. That poor old man! He'll never be able to satisfy both sides at once, I can tell you that for sure. Personally, I've always supported conscription, and you know that Journal. I know that Richard won't be eligible for service because of past injuries in the First World War. I'm kind of relieved to know that, although if it takes giving up my husband in order to win this victory, I'd do it.

My children are doing wonderfully. My nineteen-year-old daughter Kiara wants to do something for the war. There isn't much that I can do to discourage her from doing anything, so I might as well support her; she is so rebellious nowadays like most young ladies. She wants to become one of those "Bren Gun Girls" I know that it's such an untraditional job, but, anything to help Canada. Since there is about to be a labor shortage, more women are going to be needed to work in war factories, just like World War I. I'm just glad that Kiara didn't do anything too dangerous, like actually enlisting in the WAC (Women's Army Corp). She's still my daughter you know.

Custom Essays on History

Richard and I have decided that we are going to once again start purchasing bonds from the government. It's for the Victory Bonds that the government just introduced. It is to help raise funds to finance this war. I feel good about myself for doing this because I am contributing to the war to help us win once again. I have a good feeling that sooner or later Canada's economy will greatly improve, and I thank the war for it. I just hope that the war won't carry on for too long, and I pray that this war won't be as bad as the first war.

Yours Truly,

Jocelyn

In the story Of Mice and Men George, Lennie, Crooks, and Curley's wife had shattered dreams. First, George wanted to have and land to call his own. Second, Lennie wanted to tend the rabbits. Third, Curley's wife wanted to be in the movies. Lastly, Crooks wanted to be treated as an equal.

Foremost, George wanted a place to call his own. He wanted Lennie and himself to buy a ranch with their own land. They wouldn't have to worry about anyone "canning" them. The land would be there's to do as they please. He had everything planned out. Where it would be, who got to do what, what the surroundings would be, etc. It became a story of comfort. When George had to shoot Lennie it was like the other half of him was missing. The passion of them accomplishing that had died down. Also he wouldn't have the joy of Lennie as his companion. Despite the fact Lennie was mentally challenged, George cared for him.

Next, Lennie wanted to take care of many rabbits. He wanted to give them lots of alfalfa and pet them. He was very protective of the thought of their well-being. If anything threatened them he would take action. Basically he wanted to live a happy life without being troublesome to George. He wouldn't let anything bad happen to George either. When Lennie accidentally broke Curley's wife's neck everything ended for him. He would never get to live side-by-side with George, tend the rabbits, and live of the "fatta tha lan'".

Third, Curley's wife wanted to be an actress. An actual actor told her she would be great on screen. She had more than one reason for her dreams becoming shattered. Her mother told her she couldn't be in pictures so she obeyed her. After marring Curley, he acted as if he owned her and didn't let her do much. She became confined in her own house, even though she didn't really stay put. When Lennie mistakenly snapped her neck out of panic that permanently ended her dreams and life.

Lastly, Crooks wanted to be equal to everyone else. He never got to play any games with the other men. All he really did was read different books. Crooks wanted to live a nice life like anyone might. Nobody talked to him. He didn't like being alone. His dreams were shattered the day he was born. Bigotry oppressed him.

In conclusion, George wanted his own land with the company of Lennie along side him. Lennie wanted to tend the rabbits and be happy with George. Curley's wife wanted to be a famous movie star. And Crooks wanted to be treated equally and not alienated.

Easter Sunday (a Sunday between March and April 5)

The word ¡§Easter¡¨ comes from ¡§Eastre¡¨, the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of spring. A festival was held in her honor every year at Spring Equinox, to celebrate the rebirth of nature and all living things. Later, when Christianity became the dominant religion, Christians claimed Good Friday as the day that Jesus Christ died and Easter Sunday as the day that he came back to life. However, earlier fertility symbols such as rabbits and eggs have continued to be associated with the holiday.

Originally, the Easter Bunny was a rabbit-spirit called the ¡§Easter Hare¡¨. Rabbits have many babies, and were seen by pre-Christian people as a symbol of fertility and abundance. Eggs are also full of life, and it is only once the baby chick breaks through its shell that we see the wonder of the life inside. In ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Persia eggs were dyed for spring festivals. In medieval Europe, beautifully decorated eggs were given as gifts.

Valentine¡¦s Day

Cheap Custom Essays on Easter Sunday andValentine's Day

Valentine¡¦s Day falls on February 14th, and is the traditional day for sweethearts and romance. February 14th was first a Roman holiday, held in honor of the goddess. Young men would choose a sweetheart to take to the celebrations on that day. Many years later, on that same day, a Christian priest named Valentine was killed by the Romans for his beliefs and teachings. He is considered a saint, because he cured his jailer¡¦s daughter of blindness before he died. Some people say that his goodbye letter to her was signed ¡§From Your Valentine¡¨, the phrase still used today.

On Valentine¡¦s Day, it is traditional to send cards or notes of appreciation to the people you love. These are called ¡§valentines¡¨, after the notes that St. Valentine received in jail. Lovebirds give candy, chocolate, and roses to their sweethearts, and couples share a romantic dinner or a quiet walk in the park. The symbols of Valentines Day are hearts, red roses, and Cupid, the Roman god of love. He stands with a bow and arrow, ready to shoot arrows of love into our hearts.

Today, it is traditional to paint eggs on Easter Sunday, and then hide them all over the house and garden. The Easter Bunny leaves children baskets of chocolate eggs and candy. Some families give small gifts at Easter, and religious families attend church services. Many cities hold lively Easter parades with colorful floats and marching bands.

Chariots of FIRE

Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell both ran, but for different reasons, both ran on the same team, but yet competed against each other, and each had a completely different goal in his mind while he ran.

Harold Abrahams was a very fast runner who wanted more than anything to win, win, win! However, his reason for wishing to win was because he was a Jew. The fact that he was a Jew made him feel that he was ill-treated, and if he ever wanted to be somebody, he would have to make a name for himself. He felt it would be the only way to achieve respect of others. He once said after losing a race, "I run to win; If I can't win, I won't run". This shows his beliefs and philosophy for running as simply as it could. If he couldn't be the greatest, he wanted nothing to do with the sport. Because he felt this so strongly, he even went to the extreme of hiring a personal trainer. He hired a man named Sam Mussembini. The runners were not supposed to hire professionals, but because winning meant everything to him, he felt he had no choice if he was ever to beat Eric Liddell, who had previously beaten him.

Eric Liddell was a missionary to China from Scotland. He was fast and knew why, too. He said, "…But He (God) also made me fast. When I run, I can feel his pleasure." He knew that he was fast only because of God and his love for him. He also knew that he could glorify God through his running. In fact, he felt that every time he ran, he pleased God. Not only did he run for God, he also ran for the ministry. After some of his meets, he would preach a sermon or an evangelistic message to the audience. He used his talent to glorify and further the gospel of Jesus.

When Eric Liddell won, he had joy. Not the joy that comes through a victory, but the joy of God was with him. This joy came from the knowledge that God was well pleased with Eric. However, the reactions of Abrahams were completely the opposite. When he lost, he would pout and throw a pity party. When he would win though, he would gloat, brag, and then get drunk from his lack of joy. Abrahams could not find joy even in winning, because he did not have God. God had given Liddell something far more than victory. He had given him the joy of the Lord.

Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell both went on to win, but only one of them truly WON. God had given Liddell something far more than victory. He had given him the joy of the Lord. Abrahams, however, did not accept this gift and therefore, never was happy with his winnings. Winning is not everything, especially when it comes to eternity.

The treaty of Versailles played a major role in causing the rise of fascism in Germany and creating conflicts which later led to World War II because of the way in which it was implemented and reinforced by Germany, creating a weak Germany fragile to conflicts. After the end of World War I, many countries remained unsatisfied with the results of the treaty of Versailles, especially Germany. Germany had lost the war and so the treaty took several measures in relation to what should be done to the country. Germany was extremely resentful towards the treaty and so it tried to ignore it. This denial of what was happening to the country created a weak Germany open to fascism and to the start of another war.The steps that led to the conflict in Europe in 114 involved historical conflicts and issues, the formation of alliances, colonial rivalries, an arms race, Balkan instability, and the July crisis. As tensions rose between the two sides formed previous to the war, the point was reached when any minor action from one side against the other would spark the beginning of a physical war. This was the case of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, which brought the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente to the brink of war. World War I resulted in territorial reduction as a conclusion of the Treaty of Versailles and in economic destruction within Europe. The Allied victory over Germany led to a meeting at Versailles between Wilson of the USA, Clemenceau of France, and Lloyd George of Great Britain. Among the topics discussed at this meeting was that of what would happen to the territories of Europe, especially Germany, and who would gain or lose what. The war itself, however, also left Europe in great economic destruction.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

1. Segment Marketing Isolating broad segments that make up a market and adapting the marketing to match the needs of one or more of the segments.

. Target Market a set of buyers sharing common needs or characteristics that the company decides to serve.

. Product Position the way the product is defined by consumers on important attributes - the place the product occupies in consumers' minds relative to competing products.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

How to develop RJR company's marketing strategy in terms of segmentation, targeting and positioning in order to gain market share for Eclipse?

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

· Timeline considered is before Japan Tobacco acquired RJR's international operations

PREMIER vs ECLIPSE

COMPARISON

PREMIER ECLIPSE

Developments smokers felt like outcasts; nd hand smoke became a bigger issue; more places banned smoking

Target market Sophisticated, upscale, urban, educated, older; over 5 years old; hooked on smoking, but looking for alternatives to quit Adult smokers over 5; slight skew toward women; people who enjoy smoking but don't want to smell like a smoker; don't want to expose relatives and friends to nd hand smoke

Price 5-0 cents more for pack (5%) than other name-brand cigarettes 1st 10 cents per pack above premium brandsnd Priced comparable to premium brands

Ad campaign "The Cleaner Smoke" Steaming teakettle "Imagine a cigarette that smells like this""The smoke that disappears. Your girlfriend doesn't.""Enjoy smoking without smelling like smoke.""Smoke on your couch. Not on your porch.""Smell like your cologne, not your cigarette."

Others Promos - Offered or more packs for the price of 1 Research Favorable response from smokers and non smokers' families and friendsTesting (1) free carton gave video, asked to attend discovery group() Dropped videos; more written instruction to packs

What Consumers Said Smelled like burning lettuce and smoldering tennis shoes Some liked the flavor, some did notDifficult to light the cigaretteLiked that it didn't leave tobacco smell in house and carsWas a novelty for a while; but the new has worn off

RJR's FINAL STEP

· RJR tested the cigarette internationally

· Japan Tobacco (JT) acquired RJR's international operations

· Culturally, Japan stresses being polite and considerate of other people

SMOKER SEGMENTATION

Defined in terms of USAGE

1. ALL THE TIME

· Chain/Heavy smokers

· Very loyal to a brand

· Can seldom be expected to be considerate of non-smokers

. SOCIAL SMOKERS

· Smoke during social occasions

· Smoke because they like it or because of peer pressure

· May prefer a brand or go with brands of friends

. STRESSFUL SITUATIONS

· Stressed smokers

· Smoke more frequently at work especially when they are tense

· Cigarette consumption is proportional to level of stress being experienced

· May prefer a brand

4. "WHEN THEY CAN" SITUATIONS

· Enjoy smoking but can practice delay gratification (i.e. non-smoking areas, being around non-smokers)

· More considerate don't smoke when there are non-smokers

· Smoking is not necessarily tied to specific occasions, but rather to the urge to smoke

5. NON-USERS/TRIAL SMOKERS

· People who smoked before but have stopped smoking because of own reasons.

· For the trial smokers, brand preference is still weak or non-existent.

· For those smokers who stopped, brand preference could still be existent

.

ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION

1. Do mass marketing

· Target all smokers

· Position Eclipse as a substitute cigarette

Advantages

· Biggest customer base since all smokers will be targeted.

· Easier promotion since it is geared towards all prospective smokers eliminating/lessening the need for target advertising or promotions.

Disadvantages

· A few large companies dominate the market.

· Competition is fierce.

· Mass marketing is already a thing of the past and the chances of it working in today's environment are low.

· Failure of Premiere brand when this strategy was used.

· Comparison of Eclipse with other brands might highlight Eclipse's inferiority compared to these brands in terms of flavor and convenience of use.

. Do segment marketing

· Target a smaller segment of the market.

· Position Eclipse as a "different smoking experience"

· Could still be further divided into niches of smokers who stopped, non-users who plan to try, and non-users who have no intention of even trying.

Advantages

· Promotions will be geared towards a smaller group of people giving the company the ability to focus its resources on this segment.

Disadvantages

· Brand preference may still be strong with this segment.

· Brand comparison between their preferred brands and Eclipse may highlight the inferiority of Eclipse in terms of flavor and convenience.

. Do niche marketing

· Position as a "different smoking experience"

· Segment will be further divided into smaller niche.

Advantages

· Resources in manufacturing and promotions will be more focused as compared with mass marketing and segmentation marketing.

· Inferiority of Eclipse with preferred brands in terms of flavor and convenience can be non-existent.

Disadvantages

· Smaller market in terms of prospective customer number.

RECOMMENDATION

Our group chooses Alternative as the best option because of the following considerations

· The company will be able to gear its promotions in a certain direction that will be able to deliver the message the company wants to emphasize to targeted smokers with an impact at a lesser cost.

· The company will have an easier time in convincing their targeted customers in trying their product.

The targeted customers for Eclipse will be those people who belong to the non-user segment who have the intention to try different brands because brand preference is still non-existing. The targeted customer is still looking for the type of cigarette that will best fit his/her taste.

With the initial use of these potential smokers, the chances of other smokers and non-smokers of noticing the advantages of Eclipse in terms of the superiority of the product will be increased. When this people start to appreciate these advantages, the company could then start thinking of expanding the targeted customers to long-time smokers.

4 P's OF MARKETING

· Product (ECLIPSE) lesser second hand smoke as compared to conventional and existing brands. Although Eclipse has advantages with other brands, it will be positioned as the cigarette that gives a "different experience". We will not be positioning it as a better alternative to established brands.

· Place Eclipse will be made available in stores that also sell other brands of cigarettes.

· Price Eclipse will be priced at par with premium brands.

· Promotions although Eclipse will only go for a niche of the market, the company would still need to employ massive promotion with the use of tri-media. The difference that it will have is that these promotions will be all directed to non-users 5 years and below who are planning to smoke or try to smoke.

Please note that this sample paper on Eclipse Report is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes.
