The EEO office maintained an active schedule during calendar year 1. A number of special awareness programs were sponsored and offered to the Carlisle Barracks military and civilian community as part of the overall objective to promote diversity awareness and a positive equal opportunity command climate. Most significant program included the Carlisle Barracks commemorative program to Rev. Dr. Kings life and his ideals of equality and freedom for all Americans. In addition Carlisle Barracks also co-sponsored the Carlisle Area Rev. Dr. King commemoration with CSM Don Watkins participation. As part of the African American History Month we offered a variety of events promoting greater awareness of the rich history and role played by Black Americans to Americas defense including video presentation, African American vendors at the PX and Black History Luncheon program. The luncheon was part of our installation community outreach program and it features as guest speaker Mr. Clarence Stokes, Director of Black Americans Vietnam Veterans association from Harrisburg.
In March we sponsored in conjunction with Carlisle Federally Employee Women and the Federal Womens Program Committee the Womens Grove as part of the Carlisle Barracks Tree Heritage Park. The Womens Grove was presented as a tribute of honor to All-American women for their significant contributions to Americas history. The five trees were planted by each of the Carlisle Barracks Community First Ladies. Also a park bench and plaques were donated by the Carlisle Barracks Thrift Shop as a permanent testimony to the Womens Grove. The Federal Womens program Committee sponsored the first Bring Your Child to Work Day program, model after the Nationwide Bring your Daughter to Work Day. Forty children attended the various activities which tours to the Indian Industrial School, the War College, the Four Chaplains Post Chapel and the Military Police operations.
We presented a Hispanic American Heritage cultural program featuring the US Army War College Latin American Fellows Class of and the PA statewide renown Flamenco Show, Danzante. Ambassador McCallie, Deputy Commandant for International Affairs was the guest speaker.
In addition a variety of training programs on topics such as Conflict Resolution, Communication, Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Prevention of Discrimination Complaints were provide for military and civilian personnel on post.
