There are Military personnel strolling through the terminals with heavy artillery. So far no acts of terrorism have occurred but some people are still afraid of flying, because of the events that happened over a year and half ago. However, more and more people are flying again because they have an expectation that they will be safe.
Security is the main factor that determines the comfort level of the customer. Before September 11th, if going through customs at an airport, one would most likely find two people working the metal detector. Then after you get past the metal detector, you would find a person that would check your boarding pass. Nowadays, there are military officers walking around making sure that there is order in the airport.
