The three spirits that came to visit Scrooge had a great effect on him, and changed him in many ways. The first spirit was the "Ghost of Christmas Past." This spirit showed Scrooge his past when he was a young schoolboy, neglected by all his friends. Next they were in a dark, dirty room and young Scrooge was pacing back and forth. Suddenly his sister, Fan, burst into the room and danced around telling him that she had come to bring him home. The ghost also brought him to old Fezziwig's house. Fezziwig was his old boss. Lastly, Scrooge was at his ex-fianc's house, Belle. After Scrooge had seen all of this he started sobbing as he was reminded of his past. The second spirit was the "Ghost of Christmas Present." He showed Scrooge the present and how bad Scrooge was treating people. He took Scrooge to the Crachit's house and showed them how little they had but how they were all still very thankful. The ghost also brought him to Fred's house. Scrooge went right along with him this time because he understood that it was for his benefit. The "Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come" showed Scrooge his future and what would happen to him if he didn't change. This ghost brought Scrooge to his grave and also to Tiny Tim's. He saw how everyone highly disrespected him and didn't care that he had died. Scrooge decided he didn't want to die like that and he didn't want Tiny Tim to die either. So Scrooge realized he needed to change his words and actions. He decided that he was going to live in the past, present, and future.

#4 The "Ghost of Christmas Present" revealed two young children under his robe. They were "yellow, meager, ragged, scowling, and wolfish." The boy's name was Ignorance and the girl's name was Want. On the boy's brow was written "Doom" because he was doomed for death and despair. Scrooge had denied their want and needs out of his own selfishness. He had chosen to set himself apart and remain "ignorant" to the sufferings of the poor and less fortunate in the world. If the existence of these children is ignored by Scrooge going back to his evil ways, the result will be Death. Not only for Scrooge, but also for those to whom Scrooge was selfish and chose not to help meet their needs (such as Tiny Tim or the poor). As you can see, Scrooge's decisions affected more than just himself.
