A bald eagle perches on a branch of a dead tree. He looks out of the corner of his eye at a hawk, who has strenuously hunted for a fish for several hours. Just as the hawk finally grasps a fish, the bald eagle swoops down from the tree and attacks him. The bald eagle gobbles down the fish, leaving the hawk breathless, wounded, and without the fish he worked hard to catch. The bald eagle, chosen as the national bird of the United States for its "long life, great strength, and majestic looks" in 178, shows laziness, greed, and no compassion. It does not appropriately portray America, the brave and honest. With its loyalty, unity, and determination, the robin would truly represent the United States.

The United States is loyal to the constitution in guaranteeing certain rights such as freedom. America's allies can rely on America to help defend their country if attacked. Like America, robins are loyal. After migrating south in the fall, robins can be counted on to be the first to arrive north in the spring. By returning to the same location to build nests each year, robins show a strong sense of duty and responsibility.

A flock of robins on a telephone line can be sited singing for long periods of time at dawn and dusk. Their cheerful caroling together shows unity. In order for a country to operate, it must work together. America's military, the best in the world, unites to work successfully. As they chirp together, robins also show encouragement. In the United States, the Declaration of Independence proclaims the right to pursue happiness.

Robins are self-reliant and determined. Unlike the bald eagle, robins catch their prey on their own. They go about their own business and if they have trouble, they are resourceful and do not rely on other birds to catch food for them. In the same way, The United States is its own country and never asks other countries for help….determined to lead the world in democracy. The United States teaches other countries about governing themselves through democracy.

Cheap University Papers on Why the Bald Eagle Should Not be The National Bird

The bald eagle may live a long life, is strong because of its great size, and certainly has majestic looks, but these qualitieslongevity, external strength, and appearanceare shallow. The national bird should be based on moral qualities that represent the country, such as loyalty, unity, and peace that the robin has.

1. When General Declare looked into an African child¡¦s eyes, he found that the eyes of that child are exactly the same as his son¡¦s. He learned, every child is the same. No matter where they are, what ethnics they are and what situation are they living in.

. The children in Rwanda were armed; they were treated as soldiers.

. Many children listened to the enemy and killed their parents.

4. Some boys in Rwanda attacked General Declare and his fellows, and those boys took girls as their shields. Although they were children, the dangerous action forced General Declare and his group to shoot as resistance attack.

5. Those children in Rwanda did not have any education; they have little knowledge about school. The children massacre different ethnic group without knowing the reason. They were just imitating the adults.

Five questions about the issues in Rwanda

1. Why would the children want to fight in the war?

Some children become soldiers simply to survive. In war-ravaged lands where schools have been closed, fields destroyed, and relatives arrested or killed, a gun is a meal ticket and a more attractive alternative to sitting home alone and afraid. Sometimes a minor soldiers pay is given directly to the family.

(Cited from http//www.unicef.org/graca/)

. What can I do to help and support the Rwanda children if I have no money and I cannot go to Africa and help?

You can go to the website http//www.warchild.ca/studentscentre_peacecard.asp to send cards to the African children or send cards to your friends and tell them about the situation in Rwanda. It is better to let more people know, so that more people will concern about Rwanda¡¦s genocide.

(Cited from http//www.warchild.ca/studentscentre_peacecard.asp)

. What impact on children did the war cause?

In the past 10 years, about million children have been killed and more than 6 million have been disabled as a result of armed conflicts.

Moreover, schools have been closed, Children did not receive any education and their relatives were arrested or killed.

(Cited from Canadian International Development Agency)

4. What kind of country is Rwanda?

Rwanda is a poor rural country with about 0% of the population engaged in agriculture. It is the most densely populated country in Africa; landlocked with few natural resources and minimal industry.

5. How did this genocide started? How did it developed?

In 15, three years before independence from Belgium, the majority ethnic group, the Hutus, overthrew the ruling Tutsi king. Over the next several years, thousands of Tutsis were killed, and some 150,000 driven into exile in neighbouring countries. The children of these exiles later formed a rebel group, the Rwandan Patriotic Front, and began a civil war in 10.

WRIST FULL OF DATA

Microsoft and Fossil Inc. have been working for a long time to create something small that can show lots of information. They came up to an idea to create a wristwatch that will show lots of information and still the size of it to be as same as the other normal wristwatches. These watches will be using Microsoft's Smart Personal Object Technology, or SPOT, a scheme that was introduced by Bill Gates at the annual Comdex computer trade show. These watches will allow people to choose the type of information they are interested in such as news, sports, weather, stock quotes. The information will be retrieved from MSN Direct, a specialized version of Microsoft's online service using local FM radio stations.

The operating system that these watches will be using is the Palm OS Software 4.1. The computer processor is Motorola Drangonballvz Mhz with memory of MB RAM, MB flash. Display 16 level grayscale with backlight, 160 x 160 pixels. Some already build-in applications are address book, date book, To Do list, memo pad, note pad, calculator, and time. The watch comes also with an infrared port (IRDA) so it will allow communicating with all Palm OS devices. The battery life is approximately 4 days, in average use of 0 minutes per day.

This is very handy device for people who like to travel and especially for businessmen. People who travel from one time zone to another don't need to any adjustments on these watches. The watch adjusts to the correct time by it self. It is also handy for people who travel in a plane and they want to know what is the weather like at the place where they are going, they can use this watch to check that out. It is also good for people who like sport events. These watches can keep you up to date with all the scores and all the news.

Buy custom A Wrist Full of Time term paper

These watches are really useful in some situations, but they also have some things that I personally don't like about them. First, their prize. They run somewhere from $150 to $00 dollars. For this amount of money, I can buy handheld computer which is way better than the watch. Another thing is that if person wants to get updated information all the time he needs to pay $10 dollars a month. The time required for transferring data to your watch is too long because the watch uses a FM frequency. The information you can get on your watch are very limited because this watch can accept certain type of information. So personally, I rather buy some handheld computer than buying this watch. But, people who have lots of money and they don't care where and how they spend their money they can add this piece of advanced technology in their collection.

More and more people everyday are graduating from college because they know how important it is to have a degree. Deciding to go to college is an expensive investment, but will pay off in the long run. Nowadays, jobs are much more demanding with having a college degree and that it makes it very difficult, for one without a college degree, to receive a good paying position within the company. Our society is always in competition with each other that if you don't have a college degree it's going to be very difficult to get your foot in the door versus someone with a college degree. The value of having a college education goes up every year. There are many advantages to having a college degree. One is that you will earn more money versus someone that doesn't have a college degree. You will also have a better opportunity to find and keep a better job. Also, college graduates develop knowledge and experiences that you wouldn't develop otherwise if you didn't go to college.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock stated, "College graduates took home an average of $45,678 per year as compared to the $4,57 average salary of those who only completed high school." There is a remarkable difference in salary for those that graduate from college versus those who do not. Most people are going to college because they know that once they graduate they will have a better paying job. When I worked for a company back in Chicago I noticed that most of the resumes that were kept for review were for people who had college experience or a college degree. Company's first look at the educational background an applicant has because that shows them the knowledge and experience they carry for that position. I believe that the value of a college education shows the most when you see the difference in pay compared to the pay you were receiving before you even had a college education.

The world changes so much these days that it is crucial that you continue to update yourself with the latest knowledge that is out there. People that carry a college education have a better opportunity to find and keep a job. People who have a better understanding of the business world, because of a college, education are replacing so many more jobs. Companies know that by going to college you learn what is required to work in a business environment. Companies also know that you carry skills and attributes that a non-college graduate wouldn't have. By having a college education a company will see you as an asset to the company and would not let you go as easily as someone who didn't have a college education. Also, by having a college education you will have a wider range of jobs to choose from.

Please note that this sample paper on Value of a College Education is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Value of a College Education, we are here to assist you. Many people have flaws in their personality. In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is shown as a very strong solider who is loyal to his king. He is very strong, but one gets the feeling that he wants more in life. He was once good, and then becomes the source of evil in the play. Macbeth turns into is a greedy man with great ambition when the witches fill his head up with prophecies.( . . ) These are the flaws that Macbeth portrays in the play; in his character there are signs of greed, disloyalty, and vulnerabilitie.

Macbeth is very greedy in this play. He has a very good reputation with the people and his friends. He becomes the Thane of Cawdors in the beginning of the play, but he wants more. He kills his king due to great pressure from Lady Macbeth. After he kills Duncan, he becomes king and ruins the Scotland. He thinks that he is very strong and a smart person, but you get a glimpse on how he is very weak and depends on what the witches tell him what going to happen in the future. Macbeth is weak; whenever he has a problem with someone he hires someone else to kill them.

Macbeth portrays disloyalty in this play by killing all of his companions that pose a threat to him and his legacy as well as other people that do not do anything to him. He kills his best friend Banqou because Banqou's relatives would live on to become king and no seed of Macbeths.( . . ) Macbeth also has murders go to Macduff's castle and kills everyone in there, family or just servants( . . )

Macbeth is very vulnerable in this play. He is ready to attack anyone at anytime during this time. He is not afraid to hurt anyone, just as long as he wins in the end. He goes to see the witches and see what's going to happen in his life. The witches lie to him and tell him "No one born form a women will harm you, You will be king until the woods start to move up towards your castle"( . . ) Macbeth does not worry about anything now, he thinks so high of himself now. He feels as if he cannot be harmed by anyone because everyone is born from a woman. His castle starts to get attacked and one of his loyal servents tells Macbeth he sees the woods move towards the castle. Macbeth still does not fear anything because he thinks no man that is born of a woman can kill him. Macduff confronts Macbeth about killing his family and wants revenge. Macbeth tells Macduff about the witches prophecies, Macduff replies "I was not born through my mother she had to take me out form her stomach."( . . ) Macduff kills Macbeth, cuts off his head and gives the throne back to Malcolm.

In the end, Macbeth turns Scotland into a horrible place to live, but when he dies everyone is happy.

1. As decisions are made by the strategic apex, which is very often represented by the chief executive, there is no need for long dialogue within the organization. Decision-making process is then very fast. However, the lack of dialogue can result in frustration and a lack of responsabilization within the members of the organization.

. On the one hand, the adaptability to the environment is maximum because there is no standardization of outputs and processes. This structure enables the organization to adapt its outputs to the demands of a dynamic environment or a hardly predictable one. On the other hand, the core operating cannot be independent because of this lack of standardization and procedures and a strong supervision is required.

. The absence of support staff and technostructure simplifies communication within the organization. Liaison device are hardly necessary. But the organization cannot deal with work that requires many different technical competences because of this lack of specialization.

4. Example of entrepreneurial start-up the case of…

One of the first steps after analyzing the organizational culture is to understand the organizational structure. ONeill, Beauvais, and Scholl (17) discussed the differences between different organizational cultures and structures. In some cases such as the adhocracy a formal structure with vision statements may never be created.

McDonalds Corporation and the United States Forest Rangers are two organizations, which have been described as possessing strong cultures. Kilmann, Saxton, and Serpa (186) defined strong cultures as those where organization members place pressure on other members to adhere to norms. While both organizations possess strong cultures, each has a need for different levels of structure. One organization produces a highly standardized product thousands of times daily necessitating substantial structure (i.e. McDonald's). The other (i.e. U.S. Forest Rangers) is faced with situations with manifold nuances at every occurrence, and in fact, where too much structure could result in important and perhaps catastrophic subtleties being overlooked. Given that high levels of structure are most suitable in stable environments with relatively simple tasks (Burns & Stalker, 161), and a forest fire presents anything but a stable environment with simple tasks, structure may not be the appropriate device for behavioral control and may even be detrimental to employee performance.

Each organization has very distinct goals and needs. The structure is created in order to achieve these goals and thus affects the culture. Mintzberg (17) created a typology of different organizational structures including the entrepreneurial startup, the machine bureaucracy, the professional bureaucracy, and the adhocracy.

Claudius

The appearances and the personalities of the characters in the play "Hamlet" is essential to how the play is received and interpreted by the audience. Claudius is Hamlets main opposition throughout the play thus making Claudius the main antagonist. Claudius has a very complex personality, which is somewhat hard to decipher directly from the play. Having viewing the videos, however, did provide some further insight into this character. His personality consists of many different qualities and attributes. Some qualities of this character include being sedulous, having a commanding presence and his ability to feign honest. He is one of the main characters in "Hamlet" and is included in almost all of the events that take place within the play.

Claudius is one of the main characters in the play and very important. Without him, the play would not even take place because of his initial actions, which set the scene for the entire play. Claudius kills Hamlets father who is the King of Denmark. Claudius was the brother to the past king and so he was Hamlets uncle. After the murder, Claudius became King and very quickly married Gertrude who was Hamlets mother. Hamlet was suspicious of this ever so hasty marriage and his suspicions were later confirmed when his fathers' ghost visited him. The ghost reveals to Hamlet that Claudius had murdered him and Hamlet should seek revenge. Hamlet becomes very angry, on the edge of becoming mad, and that is how Claudius ends up being the main antagonist, the opposition to Hamlet.

Obviously Claudius is prepared to take any actions necessary to achieve his personal goals. This is apparent when he purposely murders his brother to become King of Denmark. It is also evident when he sends Hamlet, his nephew/step son, away to be killed so as to rid him of a potential adversary and threat. If you look at all of his actions up until the end of the play it show that he is unremitting in regards to completing his goal of becoming the King of Denmark. It is this quality that allows the play to take place. Without it, Claudius would have not murdered his brother and therefore there would be no conflict for which this play could have then occurred.

Another part of Claudius's character includes his ability to command his subjects with the power in his speech and his presence. He is one of those characters that seem like he was destined to be a king. This is evident in the way he conducts himself when certain situations arise. He is calm but at the same time he always knows what he wants the outcome of a situation to be. He usually gets his way. For example, when Laertes confronts Claudius with a sword after hearing of his fathers death, Claudius handles it calmly like it is not happening and persuades Laertes to side with him against Hamlet. He turns opposition to himself into an ally against his enemies.

Claudius is so important to this play. He initiates many of the events and takes part in most of them as well. It is his actions within the play that make the play what it is.

Please note that this sample paper on Claudius is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Claudius, we are here to assist you. MY HISPANIC NEIGHBORHOOD

By Azyade Valdez

I was born in Mexico, I lived in the same neighborhood for 10 years, I never moved. I got to know my neighbors very well, and they knew me since I was a little baby, they saw me grow up and even though we weren't very close we always kept an eye on each other.

My street was, and still is, one the noisiest streets in my city. There is a big triangle interception right at my house, and we are one of the corners. There was an accident almost every day, from people running the red light to people crossing the street without paying attention. Some how it was kind of funny.

In the summer I went to visit my sister in Dallas Texas. I fell in love with the place. It was so different from my hometown, so much nicer and cleaner. There was a front yard in almost every single home with a beautiful landscape. So different from what I was used to seeing, and so much quieter too. I wasn't living in the city anymore, I was living in the suburbs and I'd love it.

I decided to move to Dallas permanently in 17. I wanted to learn English and I wanted to go to school. Once I was living there I found out that there are a lot of Hispanic people living in Dallas. When I started school, my first class was ESL and everyone on my class was Hispanic. I had friends from Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador. It was such a great diversity of cultures but we all spoke Spanish and we felt like we knew each other for a long time. We were somehow connected right away. I think that being all Hispanics so far away from home we found each other and we felt like neighbors.

I've never knew how to dance Salsa and Merengue, and the first time I went out with my friends to dance I felt lost, I didn't know what I was doing, it was really fun to learn and since then I am a master of the Salsa dance!

Living in the United States and being able to still be attached somehow to my cultural roots through the big Hispanic community has been great. That's the kind of neighborhood I'd love to live in forever, full of different flavors, cultures, music, and most importantly friendship.

I was very disappointed when I moved to PA. I couldn't, and still can't, find that Hispanic community, that Hispanic flavor and culture and everything that I found in

Dallas. Sometimes I have the feeling that there aren't any Hispanics leaving in Philadelphia. Could that be possible? Maybe they are all living in NYC or maybe in Washington. I don't know, but what I can tell you is that I missed my culture so much and I feel like I am away from home more than ever.

I live in HERE now, and I like it a lot. It is a very small and quite place. I finally own my first home and that beautiful front yard that I fell in love with the first time when I was in Dallas. But now I am missing my real neighbors, my Hispanics neighbors. Maybe someday I'll be able to go back to Dallas or maybe some day I'll get used to being part of this great American culture!

Moby Dick by Herman Melville describes the "fight til death" tale between Moby Dick and Captain Ahab, one of whom is the protagonist while the other is the antagonist.

Captain Ahab is a stone faced, mad, and selfish man who is willing to have the whole crew killed in the process of getting his vengeance. He expresses his madness and his one-track mind when he says, "God hunt us all if we do not hunt Moby Dick to his death." Ahab accually believes that the whale is antagonizing him which he admits when he says "He tasks me, he heaps me". When a fellow whaling captain asks Ahab for help with finding his son, Ahab refuses and selfishly says "I will not do it. Even now I loose time. Good bye, good bye."

Moby Dick is a rare, fearless, and very aggressive white whale. Ahab makes it very clear that Moby Dick took his leg in statements like "it was that accursed white whale that razed me; made a poor pegging lumber of me for ever and a day!" During his quest, Ahab meets several other captains, one of whom describes Moby as a whale that "doesn't bite so much as he swallows." Moby Dick is truly an impressionable and feared being.

VDU

If you order your custom term paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on VDU. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Specify your order details, state the exact number of pages required and our custom writing professionals will deliver the best quality VDU paper right on time.

Out staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in VDU, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your VDU paper at affordable prices!

What are VDUs?

VDU health and safety regulations define them as items of display screen equipment like computer screens or microfiche readers. Screens for showing films, videos and television pictures are not covered by the regulations. Neither are screens used for surveillance.

Are they bad for your health?

Not if they are used properly and the necessary precautions are in place. The legal rights and duties covering VDUs are set out in part VII of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations, 1.

Do the regulations apply to me?

They do if you use a VDU continuous periods of more than one hour.

What must my employer do?

Your employer is required to evaluate your health and safety at your workstation with particular reference to eyesight, physical difficulties and mental stress. Steps must be taken to control any risks to health and safety. Some of these steps are set out in the box.

Do I have any responsibilities as an employee?

Yes. You must co-operate with your employer on issues relating to health and safety and use equipment and appliances properly.

What problems can arise from working with VDUs?

The three main complaints are eyesight, physical difficulties and mental stress.

How can VDUs affect your eyes?

Although VDUs do not cause eye damage, they can highlight problems that are already there. And they can lead to eye strain and eye fatigue if you don't take the necessary precautions.

Eye fatigue can be caused by staying in the same position and concentrating for a long time, bad VDU positioning, poor legibility of the screen or source documents, bad lighting, glare and reflections, or a drifting, flickering or jittering image on the screen.

What about upper limb pains?

A range of work-related pains and discomforts to the arm, hand and shoulder areas are now described as 'work related upper limb disorders? (WRULDs). These range from temporary fatigue or soreness to cramp and even ongoing pain in the muscles or nerves.

These effects are thought to be caused by a number of factors rather than any single cause. Holding a part of the body (back, neck or head) rigid for a long time can cause discomfort in the muscles, bones and tendons. Awkward positioning of the hands and wrist relative to the work being carried out is another likely factor.

These effects can be avoided by using proper equipment, suitable furniture, and by training and changing the way work is carried out.

How can VDUs cause fatigue and stress?

Stress and fatigue can result if tasks require a very high degree of concentration and vigilance or when routine tasks cause boredom. Many symptoms can also be caused by stress arising from non-VDU aspects of the work. These are more likely to be caused by poor organisation of the work, lack of control by the employee over the pace of the work, under-utilisation of skills, high-speed repetitive work or working in isolation.

The onset of fatigue and stress can be minimised by careful design, selection and location of VDUs, good design of the workstation, its environment and the task involved as well as training, consultation and involvement of the employee.

Can I use a VDU if I'm pregnant?

Yes. Research has concluded that there's VDU use poses no risk to an unborn child. But pregnant women should take frequent breaks to prevent muscle fatigue.

Employees are the organization's brain cells, and communication is the nervous system that carries this information and shared meaning to vital parts of the organizational body. In companies such as ABC Limited, it is essential that the hierarchy is surrounded by effective communication channels so that everyone involved in the process is well aware of the common mental models established. In spite of the best intentions of sender and receiver to communicate, several barriers can come into play and inhibit the effective exchange of information. Noise can really disrupt or alter intended meanings at times and thus create a misunderstanding of the encoded information.

The most prominent barrier that seems to exist in ABC is there are pre-existing perceptions among the floor employees about upper management. Everyone mentioned in the case seems to have a negative perception about the higher levels of authority. They complain that all management are concerned about are the schedules, not the about the people down on the floor. This heavy distinction between the floor employees and management comes mainly from the work space design of the work environment. Management had separate washrooms and lunchrooms as well as other perqs, which employees did not have. This may create an image in the employees mind that management are not people-oriented and feel that they are superior. Therefore they may resent or have bitter attitudes towards anyone from higher level jobs. Whether the person from management may be in fact good, floor employees already have it in their minds that they have nothing in common.

In attempting to alter the way the author has dealt with the situation, I would try to weave in management with floor employees more intensively. Management by walking around has proven to be an effective strategy when communicating with all levels of employees. Barriers of communication will definitely be minimized when there is constant interplay among upper and lower staff.

.) Identify and discuss why John was upset at the end of the case. What do you recommend the writer should do then?

Although the intentions of George (the vice president of the company) were anything but malicious, John perceived his message as upsetting. This can also be earlier seen when George sent a letter to John praising him for his great performance at work. Again John interpreted his letter as an insult and missed the whole meaning of what George intended. Obviously there is a communication barrier here. It is mentioned that George usually sent written memos to the floor in order to avoid confrontation with John because of past experiences. The directions of the memos were complex, so there were often more than two pages long. Given the nature of the amount of information to be disseminated by George, it would be recommended that he use face-to-face dialogue in order to avoid misunderstandings of the situations. John may have gotten upset about the promotion to management because he may have misinterpreted the seminars as a way of teaching him how to do his job. There had to have been a lack of communication or else John would have not reacted that way. John was conditioned in the past to receive any sort of information formally. He was not used to the more intimate way of

Human Potential and philosophical idealism revitalized Renaissance art from that of the middle ages. The humanism movement taught artists to appreciate and celebrate life on earth. Generally, artists chose to move away from false, idealistic perceptions of man and religion and redirect their attention to detail, emotion and individualism. Symbolism was replaced with realism. Life was no longer meant to surround the church, nor was every aspect of it. Renaissance art took advantage of this sudden social change and flourished in return.

Paintings turned from bland pictures into invigorating masterpieces complete with color and expression. Suddenly, one could distinguish between joyous smiles and watery eyes filled with hurt and sorrow. People in paintings were no longer looked at in "god-like" manners; instead they were appreciated in their natural state. During the middle ages, painting a nude human body was considered sinful and disgusting while in the Renaissance the nude body was celebrated and beautiful.

During the Renaissance sculpting took upon a life of its own, almost literally. Sculptors and painters alike had been known to study cadavers to have a better grasp of the human body, its muscular groups and its appropriate functions. Through these studies, the accuracy and livelihood of each sculpture increased dramatically. While the amount of time and detail each sculpture received was remarkable, a new intensity had been reached and sculptors were able to create depth that a painter could never achieve. Unlike past times, sculptors found beauty in mankind's flaws and imperfections. It was these attributes that made each sculpture different and at the same time alive with character. The people of the time saw reflections of themselves portrayed in religious and non-religious sculptures alike giving them a newfound sense of hope and importance. The emphasis was focused on the people as opposed to anything else.

Architecture advanced greatly during this time period. A new emphasis on symmetry and proportion combined with Greek and Roman inspirations created beautiful landscapes and cities that have withstood the test of time and can still be seen standing today. The dome was introduced during the renaissance, giving architects more choices and later affecting sports arenas throughout the world. Architects often use the renaissance as inspiration for works, the influence of which can be see throughout the world.

Music also took a humanistic approach as opposed to that of the Middle Ages, where lyrics were usually long, repetitive, church-related and often spoken. Renaissance music was more lively and fun. Composers branched out and expressed themselves freely as artists, much like the other players of the Renaissance. Emotion could now be heard as well as seen.

The Renaissance was known for its advancements in art that included emotion, proportion, symmetry, realism and beauty. However, beauty was now in the eye of the beholder-a new concept contributed by the Renaissance. Science made all of these advancements possible, questioning everything led to a better understanding of almost every aspect of life and during this time period life was to be lived to the fullest. Life was celebrated and appreciated through art, for art was looked at as an expression of the soul.

There a lots of people in the USA that has been miss treated by Affirmative action. I have found lots of issues on Affirmative action since last few years. I have carefully examined how this work, and its work to do so. Affirmative action should not take any role upon equal opportunity, admissions to college, nor it should take any role upon employments for women.

Women have still not received the same payroll as men, not yet at least. Women should be treated as equally as men. Affirmative action should not be a major issue when making payrolls, and when they go out for an interview, and the job is mainly for men, the interviewer's looks at a women and tells them essentially saying "the job is not qualified for a women". Some women want to enter a male dominant and career because they love the work. If they didn't know that the job is more suitable for men. They will put up with waiting in lines for applications, waiting for interviews in order to get the job. A woman should be allowed to work in any field, but don't reduce the payroll just because they are women. AAAA (American Association for Affirmative Action) is group that helps people get a better education and employment opportunities, people who has been misses treated incorrectly (Mathews, pg6 ).

Admissions why is it that if the administrator has two applications on the table and the first thing he look at is if the person is either black, or white. Then they look at the background, such as the level of education, why can't it be the other way around, why can't the administrator look at the level if education, level of improvement, the level of activities the person has. Affirmative action should not be an issue, while applying for an education. I believe both of the people should get the admissions. The admissions should focus on the grade, activities. Not on the racial background. For Example University of Michigan during 15, they use a point scale that determines the admission to college. Recently they gave more points to Hispanic student and not to a white student, because of affirmative action. University of Michigan still uses the point scale to determine the racial consideration, towards the admissions to college (Johnson, p0)

Employment is another way to argue on affirmative action. For example June 5, 00 a "white" applicant applied for Boston Police Department but didn't get in because of he was "white". He did not get the job because the other person who was applying for the job besides him was a "black" man, but the "black" man did score higher on the test rather that the "white" man. That was right decision to make, by the person who was reviewed the applications. Racial background should not be a factor on making a decision upon employment nor it should be an issue on any subject. I believe it depends on the job the person is applying for, and weather or not the person can handle the workload or not. If hiring people by their racial background goes on then, in no time there will be cases filled with affirmative actions, and sooner or later the country will be know as affirmative action. So I believe the Job should go to the person with most skill depending upon the job the person is applying for, not for the racial background. This is exactly what I am trying to state to the people that giving job to minority should not be an issue when getting a job, it should be based on the skill you have. Not for a racial background

"Animal Farm" by George Orwell is a perfect replica of Joseph Stalin's control of Soviet Communism. The following touches upon plot and setting, character description, and my reaction.

Old Major, an old and respected boar, gathers the animals of the Manor Farm for a meeting in the big barn. He tells them about a dream that he had in which all animals live together with no human beings to oppress or control them. Three younger pigs named Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer turn his main principals into a philosophy called animalism.

They eventually revolt on the farmer and take control of the land. In the beginning Animal Farm prospers. Mr. Jones comes back to take his land back, but gets defeated in the "Battle of Cowshed." Snowball comes up with a plan to build an electricity-generating windmill. On the voting day, Snowball makes a wonderful speech and Napoleon only says a few words opposing the windmill. He gets very upset because his speech wasn't that convincing and he sends the dogs he's been training after Snowball. Snowball runs away and doesn't come back. Napoleon takes over the farm from that point on and declares the pigs will make all the decisions.

Soon after, Napoleon changes his mind on the windmill, and the animals start working on building it. He sleeps in a bed, drinks whisky, and engages in trade with neighboring farmers.

Mr. Fredrick, a neighboring farmer, cheats the animals out of their money and attacks the farm. The animals win the battle. However, Napoleon has sold his most loyal and long suffering worker Boxer to a glue factory in order to get money for whisky.

Years pass on the Animal Farm and the pigs start to act more like humans. They walk upright, carry whips, and wear clothes. Eventually, the seven commandments turn into one, "All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal than others." Shortly after Napoleon declares his new motto "four legs good two legs better," he entertains a human farmer named Mr. Pilkington and declares his intent to ally himself with the human farmers. When the animals look through the window at the farmhouse, they can't tell which are the pigs and which are the human beings.

The main character is Napoleon. He is a pig who is probably very fat because he eats so much food and drinks so much whisky. Napoleon's strong points are his ability to lead. His weak points is how he never shows interest in the strength of the Animal Farm itself, only in the strength of his power over it. Napoleon portrays the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

A supporting character is Snowball. Snowball is a pig whose strong point is how he throws his heart and soul into spreading animalism worldwide. His weak point is that he basically accepts the superiority of the pigs over the rest of the animals. He portrays Leon Trotsky.

The other supporting character is Boxer. Boxer is an extremely strong horse. His strengths are that he exploits the best qualities of the working class- dedication, loyalty, and a huge capacity for labor. His weak point is his inability to recognize even the most blatant forms of political corruption. Boxer is loyal to the farm, and has a dedication of waking up every morning and working all day.

The lasting impression the book left with me is how the animals could be so clueless in what the pigs were doing. This book reminds me a lot of the three most infamous figures of the 0th century- Stalin and Hitler. In conclusion, I learned from this book that the pigs deceived the animals, just like our government can deceive us.

The subject of cohabitation is a popular one among many college campuses, primarily among the upperclassmen. Many people consider living with their significant other before getting married to see if whether or not they are compatible. Just as many other people oppose the idea for several reasons, one main one being religion. However, people that do cohabitate have many arguments as to why living with the person they think could be "the one" is the right thing to do. Many studies have been made as to decide which is the better choice, cohabitate or just get married?

It is considered that unmarried couples that live together encounter more stress than married couples. One of these reasons being that there is less commitment when a couple is just living together than when they are married, trust is a major issue. Studies have also shown that most couples living together before marriage either split up before they are married or wind up in divorce. Evidence also shows that unmarried couples do not discuss important or troublesome issues with their relationships. Roland Johnson, III states that, "Studies have found, that somewhere in-between 0 and 40% of college students are cohabitating at any given time." He also says that only one in five cohabitating couples actually get married and female college students that are cohabitating believed that they were actually going to get married, they call it a trial marriage. In 18, a survey had shown that ten percent of all households in America were cohabitating couples and that the average time spent living together was 1. years. Sixty percent of these couples end up getting married and unfortunately sixty percent of these couples end up in divorce. Many problems that cohabitating couples face are parental disapproval, lack of common purpose, division of labor, and money.

These couples that do live together do happen to have a few points as to why they believe it is beneficial for them to live together. Many couples say that it is impossible to know if whether or not the person they wish to get married to is the "right one" without living together first. There are many instances where a couple will not get married until they have lived together a certain amount of time as a "trial marriage" so to speak. There are two main reasons that cohabitating couples give as to why they prefer living together to getting married. First, they mistrust traditional dating patterns as a way to gain important knowledge about a potential spouse. They view dating as a game, whereas actually living with the person is acknowledged as a natural, revealing relationship. Cohabitators believe that being with a person all day and all night every single day is the only real way to get to know them. The second reason that couples give is that it is the only way to test the compatibility of the relationship.

It is easy to see that the main reason people choose to cohabitate before marriage is so that they can try to ensure a lasting relationship. It seems as if these people are either insecure or cowards when it comes to commitment. What these people need to look at is the fact that these couples live that together before marriage try to get to know the person to ensure a great relationship and then get a divorce. Cohabitors have about a two hundred percent chance more than couples who do not live together of getting a divorce. Cohabitators like the idea of having the freedom to back out of the relationship at any time with no hassle. I believe that when the right person is found, a "trial marriage" will not be necessary.

After a single glance at the poems "Barbie Doll," by Marge Piercy, and "Woman," by Nikki Giovanni one might say they are mere portrayals of two unhappy women. However, beyond the words on the page into the depth of the poems, lies two larger issues of insecurity and unrealistic desires.

In "Barbie Doll," Piercy speaks of this "girlchild," who seemed to be progressing through adolescence like a typical young girl, with dolls and makeup. "She was healthy, tested intelligent…She went to and fro apologizing " (Expl. Poetry, 14) Piercy writes , which conveys to the reader that she was a well mannered and wholesome young girl.

Then Piercy writes, "…in the magic of puberty, a classmate said You have a great big nose and fat legs" (Expl. Poetry, 14). In this case this "girlschild's" classmate points out what doesn't seem to be "the norm" for most girls and in a vicious and hurtful manner. Not only is this classmate just a peer of the "girlchild," but she also symbolizes society and the standards that the media places upon people in it. For example; in an average teen magazine "the normal body type of a movie star/ model is a size two" (In The Mix, 1), whereas in reality the average is somewhere around a nine. Then people within the society, or even more specifically, a young girl like the one in "Barbie Doll," look at themselves and believe that there is something wrong with the way they are and look. After believing that they should look like what the media illustrates, girls especially like the "girlchild" develop insecurities, and lose a lot of self-confidence and self-acceptance. Then they start out trying to achieve unrealistic goals, such as looking like these size two figured women in magazines. For instance one may go as far as the "girlchild" when "she cut off her nose and her legs and offered them up" (Expl. Poetry,14). Then the consequences can lead to serious illnesses, disorders or death, also like the "girlchild," in the poem…"In the casket displayed on satin she lay…" (Expl. Poetry,14).

Just like "Barbie Doll," "Woman" is not only about a woman, but it exemplifies a deeper issue of female insecurities that exist in today's society. Giovanni writes about this woman who seeks the approval of a certain man, and would be anything as long as she can be with him. Although he wants nothing to do with her, she keeps persisting on "wanting to be a robin singing, but he wouldn't be her tree…she tried to be a book, but he wouldn't read…" (Expl. Poetry, ) and throughout the poem her insecurities make her feel like she has to change. But in the end, unlike "Barbie Doll" this woman realizes all she can be is a woman…and nothing more.

Subsequently, after reading these two pieces the reader not only gets a message of a "girlchild," picked on by her peers or a woman who tries to be everything she's not for approval. But they are open to larger issues of women's insecurities, and unrealistic desires to be what they see in the media, or what society views as deemed socially desirable. It illustrates the hardships of being a young girl in a school with harsh peers, and the pressure of "looking good." These two pieces also show the concept of how society often judges by physical looks, and that the pressure sometimes can be so overwhelming that it may lead to sickness or in the "girl child's" case, death.
